8A - Solving the Problem

The opportunity I have selected is regarding what Florida Administration for Schools should do in order to increase the safety of students involved in Greek life.

I think that there are a lot of correct and incorrect ways to go about this opportunity. For one: a lot of people are really concerned with creating heavier laws on drinking and also banning Greek life as a whole. Creating some sort of service that would allow fellow students to answer a series of questions regarding the level of danger another student is in regards to general health or substance abuse. I think some sort of intelligent app would be able to fill this void and wouldn’t be the final solution but would be able to give young adults who aren’t quite the best decision makers, a little help in figuring out how to handle certain situations.

  1. Hey Matthew, I believe that the solution that you have recognized that deals with this problem is very beneficial to the well being of students that go to these schools. Not only can this help students make right decisions now but it can also teach some right ethics to students who put others at risk. Moreover, this is something that actually should be looked at because it can affect almost everyone.

  2. Hi Matthew,
I think your idea is a step in the right direction, however, I worry if people will really step up to use that service if it were available. Some people might not feel comfortable using it in regards to their close friends even if they do really care about their friend's safety. Often times people will look the other way. And this doesn't necessarily mean it wouldn't be effective, it's just something to keep in mind when developing this idea. Thanks for sharing!
