12A – Figuring Out Buyer Behavior No. 1
Segment:
I chose to use the 18-25
segment for my market as I’ve been using this and am beginning to get a good
understanding for the needs of this segment.
Summary:
When I conducted my
interviews I was trying to figure out how confident my segment was in their
decision making process regarding medical emergency. I decided to figure out
who people call before they call 911 and what they search. My three
interviewees all agreed that googling medical situations was stressful as most
of the time WebMD will let you know your diagnosis is Brain Cancer for every
symptom imaginable. Everyone agreed it would be incredibly helpful to have some
sort of easy middle man in order to consult anonymously and get a better idea
of how to deal with their situation.
Conclusion:
Many people share a similar
concern when approaching this topic. It’s very often that people use similar
methods of information search when consulting with this sort of problem as
there is really only a handful of options available in a timely manner. This
can cause panic and irrational decisions which is why I think it’s important to
offer another way to solve these sorts of issues.

ReplyDelete18-25 is a pretty broad market. I think narrowing it down even more in the psycho-graphics would be beneficial to really honing in on who you want your service to reach. Also, in an extreme emergency case, I wonder if people have time to scope through WebMD before calling 911. These are just some things to consider in your development. Thank you for sharing.

Hey Mathew, I believe that if you are googling something before calling 911 then it probably is not an emergency. Not everything requires a doctor, but it is always nice to be sure. An app like yours could be used as telemedicine and have a subscription-based model. and it might even save people money if they don't really need to see a doctor. It would be great if it could give prescriptions as well.
ReplyDeleteHey Matthew, I completely agree with the fact of the presence of a middle man in your scenario. I have used WedMD multiple times and to by quite honest the results I got were far more extreme than I was anticipating. I believe this stems from the fact that many of the issues all tend to deal with similar symptoms to begin with.
